Sintra

A fairy-tale town with colorful palaces set in misty hills. The Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira are the highlights. Take the train from Rossio station (€2.30 each way, 40 minutes).

Cascais

A charming coastal town with sandy beaches and a relaxed vibe. The train from Cais do Sodré takes 35 minutes and costs €2.30. Walk along the coast to Boca do Inferno (Hell's Mouth).

Setúbal and Arrábida

Less touristy, with dramatic cliffs and pristine beaches in the Arrábida Natural Park. Best reached by car or bus from Lisbon.
