Temples & Pagodas to Visit

Tran Quoc Pagoda — Hanoi's oldest Buddhist temple, sitting on a small island in West Lake. The 15-meter red pagoda reflected in the water is iconic. Free entry.

Lakeside Walks

Hoan Kiem Lake — The heart of Hanoi. Walk the full loop (1.7 km) in the morning when locals practice tai chi, or on weekend evenings when the surrounding streets close to traffic and fill with performers.

West Lake (Tay Ho) — A 17 km loop around Hanoi's largest lake. Rent a bike for 50,000 VND (~$2 USD) and ride past pagodas, flower gardens, and lakeside cafés. Stop for bun oc (snail noodle soup) at one of the waterfront stalls.

Truc Bach Lake — A smaller, quieter lake connected to West Lake. The shaded path is perfect for a spring afternoon stroll, and the lakeside cafés serve excellent egg coffee.
